Casa Carolina is located on Playa Verde, a small private beach located 1 1/2 miles from the beachfront village of Troncones and a 30 minute drive on a new highway from the twin resort towns of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. We are serviced by an international airport (airport code ZIH) that is located 15 minutes outside Zihutanejo and about a half hour drive to Casa Carolina.
The airport receives international and domestic flights daily including those from Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Air Canada and Aeromexico. During winter months, US Airways, Delta, Frontier and American Airlines also has flights. Commuter flights from Mexico City via domestic airline, Interjet, further opens up flight options for international travelers looking for the best deal to get here.
Once you arrive at the airport, you can either take a taxi or rent a car. If your are driving, exit the airport and follow signs for Zihuatanejo. Once you reach Zihuatanejo, stay on the highway and follow signs for Lazaro Cardenas (forking to the right towards Lazaro Cardenas, not towards Ixtapa) until you reach the turnoff for Playa Troncones (about 30 minutes). Take the turnoff, and follow the road until you reach the beach and have to turn right or left. Take a left and follow the road all the way past the bridge, then 2 villas. Keep going until you cross a cattle guard. Casa Carolina will be on your right side shortly after crossing the cattle guard.
There are a few very small shops in Troncones where you can purchase limited supplies of snacks, beverages, locally made bread and some fresh produce. For more comprehensive grocery shopping, we recommend the traditional central market as well as the modern grocery store, La Comercial Mexicana, both located in Zihuatanejo Centro.
